87 Victoria Road NG5 2NL

The garden consists of three rooms of different character. The first (and original garden) is 30+ years old, and has two large lilacs which frame the space, a north facing border with shade loving plants and a pond on the sunny side. The gateway takes you into the second garden which is the working/kitchen garden but which also has some art, and a teeny courtyard with productive peach tree and sun-loving plants. Another gateway takes you into the third garden which is the most recently developed, with a timber greenhouse, raised beds, fan-trained  VIctoria plum tree and native wild flowers.
There will be an animal trail for young children, with small prizes. Entry is £1.

13 Cannon Street NG5 2HB

Our house on Cannon Street is one of the few houses where you need to come through the house, making this a blessing if the weather proves poor, a refuge to enjoy vegetable samosas, homemade cakes and real coffee, and a toilet if anyone's caught short.
We had a side extension built in 2015, which replaced an ugly corrugated-plastic-roofed car-port and a concrete drive. The builders created a bespoke shed for bikes and wheelie bins, on which we grow sedum and other drought-tolerant low-growing flowers, and installed a water-butt. We decided to fill the small space left with as many flowers as possible.
Simon, checking wrist bands at the front, will be happy to answer any questions you have, yet especially any queries about his St. Ann's allotment plot, which we've had for over 15 years.
Our back garden is a small, west-facing bricked courtyard which, due to the radical building work, was a building site in 2015 (we have a book of 'before' photos, which we hope will inspire). Due to its relatively small ground area, we decided to make the most of the height: we had a corner-arbour installed with high-tension, heavy-duty wires connecting to the house; these support seven climbers. More recently, we added an arch for an existing climber and another rose. Centre-stage is a large potted Japanese maple surrounded by other potted plants. In the beds are a wide variety of flowers and shrubs, and pots of various annual and perennial herbs below the kitchen window.
The builders also made a raised pond in which lilies and irises grow, along with oxygenating plants.  Last year we added fish which fend for themselves and appear very happy.
We use no herbicides or pesticides; we have water-butts for both rain- and bath-shower grey-water. My passion is to grow as much as I can from seed, particularly from those I've gathered. We look forward to welcoming and chatting with you on 13th June.
